The Mobile Performance Dwelling, or "Dance Pod"
THE OBJECT:
It is a mobile performance dwelling.
It is a dance pod.
It is a mobile multi-functional and collapsible travel trailer.
It is made to work as an event space, a performance venue, a photo studio, and a video stage.
It is designed and built by me (with lots of help).
The pod has two rooms.
Room 1 is the living space / commercial kitchen / green room.
It has a seating area.
And a full kitchen, permitted for commercial catering.
It has a dry flush toilet.
And a shower.
It has a desk that can function as an entertainment center, an editing lab, or a tech operator station.
Room 2 is a mini black box.
It is a photo / filming / performing stage.
It is a festival stage.
It is a rehearsal studio.
It is a multi- media workshop.
It is a living room with a (mobile module) sleeping loft.
The pod design allows interior to become exterior.
It has a metal reinforced, cantilevered roof.
Its three hinged walls unfold, transforming walls into stage flooring.
The stage floor is danceable-- the floor hinges are seamlessly hidden.
The structural posts are removable, allowing for an open format, 12 x 24 feet of raised staging.
It can park anywhere, and be ready to rumble in no time.
Beach. City. Mountainside. Lakeside. Streetside.
The pod can drive up, set up in under an hour, and pack up in minutes.
Off grid performance power lasts for four hours on batteries, longer with the generator.
READY ON THE SCENE IN 2023.
The black box debuted in 2016 at the Bellweather Bellevue Art Museum festival. Today. it is ready for the event and performance season of 2023.
