The Hanna Barn Grounds. This retreat is a special and rare opportunity for our community. The property is a residence owned by a woman dedicated to CDP and CI. She has renovated her outbuildings and grounds with great care for these purposes. She offers the entire property— her natural (maintained to be that way) landscaping, the woods, and the waterfront, an extension of her lovely and generous spirit. It is available for everyone as part of our community culture, living close, dancing closer! But mostly, it’s a very beautiful space to hang out, respite style— to write, draw, walk, dance, sit, etc— making a retreat available for any income level. It goes with the chill and inclusive Scott Wells vibe very well.
There is nothing online about the property because it is a private offering, not public. We are very lucky! Bring warm clothing. Joan the owner warns that a wicked north wind can sneak up on us, no matter the season. Respect. Please stay clear of main residence to respect host privacy. Quiet time all days is 10:30 pm - 7:30 am Public Health. Covid protocols will be appropriate based on the public health situation which changes all the time, and that includes a plan for cancellation if necessary. The most active defense will be to ask people NOT to come if at all sick or exposed. Masks are optional. This is one of the first CI events since COVID. It is new territory. We will do our best to keep CI safe. |
On-site Lodging.
The barn, upstairs. The lodging is very nice and very clean, but it is not very private, more like pristine commune style! Each floor of the barn is made to be danced in. The upstairs is often used for sleepovers. We ask each lodge sleeper to bring their own bedding/padding. Ask if you are traveling and need help. Please be forewarned that the upstairs may double as a dance space, and personal belongings will be placed safely on the side of the room. It is an open room, but there are small walls/supports that make a tiny bit of designated spaces between people. There is no governance over who sleeps where, it’s up to the sleepers. There is a wooden picnic table and two bathrooms, one with a shower, wheelchair accessible. The kitchen and meal tables are in the garage adjacent to the barn. Tenting. Your tent/bag, placed anywhere you like. Other: There are 20 on site lodging spots available. Retreat is limited to 30 participants. Opting for off site lodging? Reserve one asap-- Vashon lodging often sells out weeks in advance. See FB event for organizer-generated options, in discussion posts. https://www.facebook.com/events/540283124755167/?active_tab=discussion There is room for individuals’ snack/special food storage. Since meals are provided, there is only a tiny bit of fridge space (so please try not to need it). |
